i won’t diet

I read somewhere that the English view January as a time to detox, cleanse and, basically, diet more than any other nationality. Personally, there are a million reasons why I don’t diet.  Relax.  I’m not going to bore you with my reasons, but even the word DIET makes me squirm.  It screams ‘missing out’ or ‘loser’ or ‘over-controlled disciplinarian’.  But, I will admit that I am keen to shed a little of the evidence of my over-indulgance during the Christmas season.

My way involves a whole lot of fun.  Firstly, I enjoy food and this needs to be respected, not punished.  It makes sense to relook at the food you buy and to use this excuse to discover new, exciting and sometimes more exotic foods to try.  Why not pile your plate high with raw kale salad with pomegranate and toasted walnuts?

Secondly, we all work harder with an incentive. I have had my eye on a new pair of jeans for a while (Mother Skinnies www.net-a-porter.com/product/196744) and, since they are only a click away, I need to remind myself of these beauties each time I reach for the Green and Black dark chocolate.

Finally, don’t mention the diet.  It’s so much easier not to talk about it.  By talking about it you are reminding yourself how hungry you are.  Instead, tell everyone how much you love drinking green tea and get steaming your salmon.
