a debate I often encounter, probably based around the postcode I live in. shouldn’t a child be encouraged to work hard whilst ensuring that enjoyment and the sense of achievement are present? I find overambitious parents a worrying breed. surely they can see the damage they are doing as they insist that 3 instruments, tap dancing, tennis coaching, swimming squad and japanese method maths are an acceptable routine for a six-year-old? Even if the child goes on to attend Havard, surely they will be incapable of old-fashioned relaxing and reading for enjoyment? Long live Lego and the imaginary world of Playmobil. we all need to unwind a little.
childhood versus ambition
