Hexbug: the bug that doesn’t bite

We’re not big into pets in our house.  It’s not that we don’t like animals because we do, but as neither Him nor I grew up with a dog, cat or budgie, we don’t necessarily know what we are missing out on.  So it was curious that, as I was eating my boiled egg for breakfast this morning, I heard some scurrying across the kitchen floor….

Smaller version of Him and Mini-me are obsessed with Hexbugs and their cryptic habitat.  For those who don’t cohabit with the Hexbug craze, I can explain.  Each of these robotic mini creatures has a different name, colour and graphic and they really do behave like real bugs.  They move forward, using their 12 legs, in a vibrating motion and turn according to the terrain. Bumping into walls, changing direction and with limitless energy, the bugs travel over the most interesting assault courses and a labyrinth of tunnels in our home.

Personally, I find our Hexbug friends to be perfect lodgers; the right mix of collectability and funky science to appeal to children and big children alike. Needless to say, our pets were made in China.

diet fairies DO exist

A steady increase in the number of restaurant reviews I am now doing has meant only one thing; a waist line to match. Something had to give (and I preferred that it was not my Current Elliot jeans) so when the editor of Belle About Town suggested that I review the growing trend of diet delivery services in London, I finished my mouthful and leapt at the chance.

Instead of googling blindly, I asked around for recommendations. I discovered that there are a number of companies offering comparable services which are, quite simply, food for the fat and lazy. Living a stones throw from three leading supermarkets, I could not see why I would need someone to deliver my meals daily. And anyway, what would the rest of the family eat while I nibbled on a brazil nut?

I am blushing

I am blushing.  Not in an embarrassed, self-conscious way but in glowing, girlie way.  And it is nothing anyone has said either, it is simply because I have been using Dr Perricone’s First Blush Brightening Serum.

Dr Nicholas Perricone pioneers powerful skincare concepts.  He links super foods to beautiful, young-looking skin and has revolutionised the skincare industry with his award-winning line of products, SUPER.  Convinced that cellular inflammation may be the underlying cause of wrinkles, he strives to prevent this inflammation and to therefore slow down the aging process.

So here I am blushing because I am convinced that I am looking more youthful.

The dose of melon extract, in this rather cute bottle of serum, is protecting my cells and the vitamin C is reducing discolouration and improving the skin’s health and radiance.  Brightening, tightening and glowing…. Who wouldn’t want to blush?

Diving into the beautiful world of H

There was a conscious decision to leave my lap top at home and to not blog my way through our week in Paris.  He and I had decided that the little people were finally of an age they could appreciate all that we adore about this city of culture, food and all things elegant.  And until the final day, I had satisfied my word urge through Twitter.  But then, on the final day, we found ourselves somewhere only the non-price conscious Parisians dare to tread.  Redefining our culture mission, we added the Hermès new-ish flagship emporium to our agenda.

Located in what was once Hotel Lutetia’s indoor swimming pool, this is the first Hermès store on the Left Bank.  The swimming pool had been originally built in 1935 and remains the Art Deco feature it was designed to be.  The large vacuous space, in the heart of the Saint-Germain- des-Prés quarter, houses the various Hermès collections in impressive nine-metre high wooden huts. Homeware, wallpaper, carpet, jewellery, leather goods, mens and womenswear and, of course, those iconic silk horsey scarves; the entire Hermès world exists here.

The store also houses a swanky florist, on the right as you enter, and a tea room on the balcony aptly named Le Plongeoir (diving board) tempting you with tea and cake served on Hermès china.

We all adored the creative adaptation and its contents; a must visit for all those on the Paris culture trail but do leave your credit cards at home.
